The Devil All The Time (2020)

Alternate Title: The Bullet Is The Solution All The Time

Plot: A young man takes revenge for the wrongs done to his family. But firing one bullet leads to firing several more.

Tl;dr Review: You should watch it.

When to Watch: Best at night, or even at midnight.

With Whom to Watch: Won’t recommend watching it with your family. Watch it with friends, or your date. But it’d be best to watch it alone.

Full Review: This is the closest you’ll ever get to a Batman vs. Spiderman movie. And it’s gorgeous! Well, gorgeous may be a bit exaggeration; but it’s good. The story is tight, there’s no fluff. The music is atmospheric, though used sparsely. The acting is good. The accent…… Well, it’s wonky. Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson are both British. And hearing them talking in a heavy Ohio accent threw me off. To be honest, I don’t know if it’s Ohio accent. I don’t even know if there’s any such thing as an “Ohio accent”. To me it sounded funny whenever they spoke 😂

Let’s talk about the story. The story revolved heavily around religion, and how people take advantage of it. The first act of the movie is about a WWII soldier coming back from the war. He meets a girl and starts a family. The second and third act shows the story of his son. The makeshift family of the son, the injustices done to them, and how he goes about seeking vengeance. But there are multiple sub-plots occurring within the overarching storyline. And you have to pay attention to them if you want to understand the movie. If you get the beat of it, then you’ll thoroughly enjoy it.

One thing that stood out to me is the acting. Tom Holland did a bloody brilliant job! The guy can act. That’s equally true for the rest of the cast. The acting alone makes you wanna continue the movie.

The movie relies on narration to give the audience a lot of the context. But to me it felt like they would’ve been better off without it. It added to the atmosphere, sure. Makes you feel like you’re watching one of those old movies from the 80’s and 90’s. But it was unnecessary. Some of the sub-plots were a bit loose, drags the movie on a bit, but it’s forgivable. Overall, it’s a solid movie. Won’t be surprised if it gets one or two Oscar nomination.

Final Score: Worth your time/10
